Taiwan to Malaysia Pet Import & Export Service

A taiwan to malaysia pet import runs under Malaysia's non-scheduled rule, so the animal is held at the KLIA quarantine station for not less than seven days. Taiwan holds arriving pets for seven days too — but that week drops to zero if the rabies titre falls in the right window and the permit is filed early.

Stage 01

Taiwan to Malaysia Pet Import: Two Rulebooks, One Move

Quick answer

Both ends set a seven-day holding period as the starting point. Malaysia writes its seven days into the non-scheduled regulation with no way out. Taiwan writes its seven days as a default that a correctly timed rabies antibody test removes entirely.

Families moving between Taipei and Kuala Lumpur assume the arrival into Malaysia is the harder half. It is not that simple.

  • Into Malaysia. Every taiwan to malaysia pet import needs a MAQIS permit only an authorised agent can lodge, and seven days at the quarantine station.
  • Into Taiwan. The permit is free and an owner can file it, but the titre behind it is drawn months earlier.

My Pet Mover works from the Klang Valley, minutes from KLIA and its quarantine station, and files as an authorised agent on the Malaysian side. Here is how Taiwan's own authority explains what it inspects at the border.

Stage 02

Why Taiwan Is Not on Malaysia's Scheduled List

Quick answer

Malaysia's scheduled list names the United Kingdom, Eire, Northern Ireland, New Zealand, Japan, Sweden, Brunei and Australia. Taiwan is not among them, so a taiwan to malaysia pet import enters under the non-scheduled regulation and serves the compulsory holding period at KLIA.

The word "scheduled" is not a judgement on how well a country controls rabies — an origin either appears on the list or does not. Under the Department of Veterinary Services regulations for non-scheduled countries, an arriving animal "shall be… detained in quarantine for compulsory period of not less than seven (7) days". Two details matter:

  • "Not less than" is a floor, not a fixed stay. The department can extend it up to six months on a risk assessment.
  • No vaccination record shortens it. Unlike Taiwan, Malaysia offers no antibody-test route out. A perfect file still serves the week.

That week is described on our page about pet quarantine at the KLIA station, and the list itself in our guide to scheduled versus non-scheduled countries.

Stage 03

What Pet Shipping Taiwan to Malaysia Involves, Step by Step

Quick answer

Pet shipping taiwan to malaysia runs in a fixed order: eligibility, microchip and vaccination, quarantine booking, MAQIS permit, Taiwanese certificate, then flight and clearance. Each step depends on the one before it, which is why starting in the middle stalls a move.

How to move a dog or cat from Taiwan into Malaysia

On a taiwan to malaysia pet import the order is deliberate: the permit cannot be filed before the quarantine space exists.

  1. Check the breed and age first. Banned breeds cannot be imported at all; restricted breeds need written approval before a permit application opens.
  2. Microchip, then vaccinate. An ISO 11784 and 11785 chip, then an approved anti-rabies vaccine before export, core vaccines current.
  3. Book the quarantine space. We collect the reference the permit will be filed against.
  4. We file the MAQIS import permit. Only an authorised importing agent can lodge it.
  5. Get the Taiwanese government veterinary certificate. It must confirm the animal was examined and found free of rabies and contagious disease within seven days before export.
  6. Fly and clear. We present the permit and certificate on arrival, and the animal moves to quarantine.
  7. Release and delivery. After the release inspection, we deliver the animal to your address.

Step five trips up more files than any other: a certificate issued eight days before departure is not slightly late, it is invalid. The full document set sits on our pet import Malaysia page.

Stage 04

What Each End Requires, Both Directions

Quick answer

Read the two columns side by side and the asymmetry is obvious. Malaysia asks for an agent-filed permit and a tight certificate window. Taiwan asks for a rabies antibody titre drawn at least ninety days before departure.

Every row comes from the two authorities' published requirements, including the chip standard in our note on microchip rules for pets entering Malaysia.

Stage 05

Malaysia to Taiwan Pet Export Starts at the Blood Test

Quick answer

A malaysia to taiwan pet export is treated as arriving from a rabies-infected country, because Malaysia is not on Taiwan's rabies-free list. That classification triggers the antibody titre, and the titre date sets every other date.

Taiwan's rabies-free list is short: Japan, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Norway excluding Svalbard, Hawaii and Guam, Singapore and Estonia. Everything else, Malaysia included, counts as rabies-infected. Four conditions then decide the file, per the APHIA guidance on importing dogs and cats:

  • An inactivated vaccine, nothing else. Modified live rabies vaccines are not accepted, even where licensed at home.
  • A titre of at least 0.5 IU/ml. Tested at a World Organisation for Animal Health reference laboratory or an APHIA-designated one.
  • A sampling date 90 days to one year before entry. Too late and the animal cannot fly as planned; too early and the result expires.
  • No second chance on arrival. The sample cannot be taken in Taiwan, so the test finishes in Malaysia.

We sequence the vaccination, blood draw and courier in one plan, then work the flight date forward. The wider process sits on our pet export Malaysia page.

Stage 06

Holding Days by Direction and Titre Timing

Quick answer

Four scenarios cover almost every move here, from no holding at all to a detention measured in months. What moves the number is not the airline or the season, but the date on the blood sample.

The Malaysian figures follow our guide to how long pet quarantine in Malaysia lasts.

Stage 07

The Only Direction That Can Reach Zero Days

Quick answer

Taiwan waives its seven days if the passing rabies test was sampled between 180 days and one year before entry and the permit is filed far enough ahead, with the laboratory report reaching the agency directly. A taiwan to malaysia pet import has no equivalent route out.

This is the part almost nobody plans for, because it rewards being early rather than thorough. The waiver in APHIA's published importation procedure needs two things at once.

  • The sampling window shifts. Blood drawn 180 days to one year before entry, not the 90 days that meets the basic rule. A titre drawn 100 days out is valid, and still costs the week.
  • The report has to arrive independently. The permit is filed at least 120 days before entry, and the passing report reaches the agency direct from the laboratory, its website, or the exporting country's authority.
A titre drawn three months before the flight is compliant. A titre drawn seven months before the flight is compliant and free.

The decision is made about six months before anyone books a ticket, and it is worth real money against the daily charges a quarantine stay carries. Where it is out of reach, we say so in the first reply.

Stage 08

The Preparation Countdown, Both Directions

Quick answer

Counting backwards from departure day makes the two directions easy to compare. The outbound leg front-loads almost everything; the inbound leg concentrates its work in the final three weeks.

Lead times follow our guide to getting a MAQIS import permit.

Breed Rules Cut Both Ways on This Corridor

Quick answer

Malaysia bans seven breed groups outright and restricts six more behind written approval and a premises inspection. Taiwan bans breeding and import of Pit Bull Terriers. A dog blocked at one end is not blocked at the other.

We run this check first, because a breed problem found after vaccination and testing is money spent. The Malaysian import regulation splits dogs into two lists:

  • Banned outright. Akita, American Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, Fila Braziliero, Japanese Tosa, Neapolitan Mastiff, and the Pit Bull group including American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
  • Restricted. Bull Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Doberman, German Shepherd and its Belgian and East European relatives, Perro de Presa Canario, and Rottweiler. These need written MAQIS approval, a pedigree certificate, and an inspection of the dog's future home.

Taiwan takes a narrower position, banning the breeding and import of Pit Bull Terriers. A German Shepherd needing a full approval file for Malaysia enters Taiwan on ordinary conditions, while a Staffordshire Bull Terrier is refused at both ends. Our guides to banned and restricted dog breeds in Malaysia and Taiwan's restrictions on pets arriving from Malaysia cover each side.

Stage 10

Taipei to KL Pet Transport on Flight Day

Quick answer

Taipei to kl pet transport is a short sector, roughly four and a half hours in the hold, and we book it direct wherever the crate size and aircraft allow. A connection adds a transit country's rules to a file that already answers to two.

Short flights make this corridor forgiving, but three things decide how the day goes:

  • Crate size is booked, not guessed. The animal must stand, turn and lie naturally in a crate the airline accepts. We measure before booking — see our guide to IATA crate sizing.
  • Direct beats cheap. A connection can pull in transit requirements neither government asked for, as our note on pet flight transit rules explains.
  • No sedation. Airlines and vets advise against it for animals in the hold, and a sedated animal can be refused at acceptance.

The rules read differently on the Hong Kong route, where quarantine turns on a country grouping, and on the Singapore route, where inbound moves skip it entirely. Routes such as usa to malaysia pet shipping add arrival-city restrictions. All ten sit on our international pet transport routes page.

What a Taiwan Corridor Pet Move Costs

Quick answer

Some lines are set by an authority and some quoted by a supplier, and mixing them is what makes online estimates unreliable. Full door-to-door moves sit in a band, not at a single price.

Starting Your Taiwan Corridor Move

Quick answer

Send the direction of travel, the species and breed, the adult weight and the vaccination dates. Those facts let us confirm eligibility at both ends and return a dated plan with an indicative range.

This corridor rewards early contact. On a taiwan to malaysia pet import we file the permit owners cannot file themselves, and a blood-sample date decides whether a family collects their dog at the airport or a week later.

We will tell you in the first reply whether the waiver is still reachable. From there the work is ours: the booking, the permit, the vaccination sequence, the certificate dates, the crate, the flight and the clearance.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my pet have to be quarantined flying from Taiwan to Malaysia?

Yes. Taiwan is not on Malaysia's scheduled country list, so a taiwan to malaysia pet import ends with the animal detained at the KLIA quarantine station for not less than seven days. A vaccination record does not shorten it. The stay can be extended up to six months on a risk assessment.

Can my dog skip quarantine when flying from Malaysia to Taiwan?

Yes, with early planning. Taiwan waives its seven-day post-entry quarantine on three conditions: the passing rabies antibody test was sampled between 180 days and one year before entry, the permit is filed at least 120 days ahead, and the laboratory report reaches the agency through an approved channel.

Can I apply for the Taiwanese import permit myself?

Yes. The Taiwanese permit is free and an owner may apply directly, at least 20 days before entry. Malaysia is different: a MAQIS import permit can only be lodged by an authorised agent, which is why inbound moves need one.

Where can the rabies antibody test be done for Taiwan?

At a World Organisation for Animal Health reference laboratory or one designated by the Taiwanese authority, with a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml. The sample cannot be taken in Taiwan, so a missing or failed test cannot be fixed at the border.

Moving between Malaysia and Taiwan with a pet?

Send your direction of travel, your pet's breed and its vaccination record. We will confirm eligibility at both ends, map the permit and titre dates, and return a written quote.
